Short Story: Rustsong

“Null-wisdom says when your skin starts itching, you know your time is coming. When you feel like your bones aren’t the right shape, and the way the air touches you makes your teeth ache, its time to find something sharp and somewhere private.”

Rustsong is now up at the Future Fire. You can find a link to the story under the “Fiction” tab on the site. I’ve been so excited to share this with you. One, because this story was a quirky idea that popped into my head. Second, because there are illustrations and they’re great. Just beautiful. The third part is that the team at TFF were great to work with. Friendly, dedicated, and it was something I really appreciated.

Rustsong is about choices and parents and destiny. It’s about what you do when you’re faced with bad choices and you need to make the most of it. And maybe a little bit about what happens when grief runs out and you’re still living your life.

It’s also a science-fiction story. Chew on that for a second. It makes me smile.
