Let’s assume that you’ve received an acceptance from a market. Awesome job! You will then receive a contract, which we discuss in other posts. This contract will outline payment (per word, no payment, etc), it will also outline the timeline for being paid. Some examples:

On Acceptance – When you sign the contract, you will be paid the agreed upon amount

Upon Publication – When the story is published, you will be paid the agreed upon amount

Within (X) Days – Within a particular time period, or fiscal quarter, you will be paid the agreed upon amount
